Elfin magic

Lulu got a new fleece jumpsuit from her Aunt Mouse and Uncle Cross. It fits her really well and she looks really cute in it.

After some fresh air, we had some floor time and she showed off her mad sitting up skillz.

Grab it!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

This is not the most exciting video I’ve ever shot, but I’m still experimenting with getting video clips online. This was shot on Sunday and is a good example of how grabby Miss Lulu is when the camera is out.

It sounds cliche when you hear someone say that having a baby changes a your life. It even sucks a little that it’s totally true.

When you have a kid, you find yourself doing things you just wouldn’t have done in your old life. You’ll whip out photos of your kids to show just about anyone who’s willing to look at them, gush about your little one to anyone who’s willing to listen (and not rolling their eyes the minute you open your mouth) and you might even start a blog.

Getting a tattoo that is inspired by your offspring is not an unusual occurrence. People get tattoos to commemorate their children all of the time. They get portraits of their babies or the names of their children inked in their skin so that they can look at it fondly no matter where they are. Love for your child is more than skin deep, but a tattoo let’s the whole world know how much your child means to you.

Turns out that we’re no different. This little girl has enchanted us beyond our expectations in the few months she’s been here. A tattoo seems like the least we can do to show our love for her.  Forrest and I both have violets since Lulu’s middle name is Violette. Both tattoos were done by our friend, Natan at Witch City Ink.

Some might find the means of our expression a bit disagreeable, but we don’t.

Hey, did you know that babies can get tattooed now?
** Lulu’s next!

*Flesh for Lulu is not only the title of this post, but the name of a goth/alternative band from the 80′s that we were fond of! In fact, most of the post titles are inspired by a lot of 80′s songs, especially if they’re by The Cure.

**Just kidding! No babies were tattooed in the writing of this post. The tattoos on the baby are not real, view the magic that is Photoshop.

Even though it’s still pretty cold outside, we try to go out for a little walk around town whenever the weather co-operates. Last weekend we had a fairly mild day so we bundled up the little girl and went out for a walk. It was slightly windy out, but she was plenty warm. She loves to be outside (who doesn’t after being cooped up all winter long?) and I couldn’t resist taking her picture. Especially in that cute, pink hat!

It's so windy out that it brought a tear to her eye.

another cup of coffee

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Yesterday we started our day in usual Saturday morning fashion. The three of us headed on over to the Front St. Coffee shop for breakfast. We usually sleep in a little later (Lulu will sleep in anywhere from 8:30-9:30 in the morning), get dressed quickly, grab a bottle for her and walk on over. Since we’re there every Saturday there are some other regulars who always come over to say hello to Miss Lulu, check out her latest outfit or see which cute shoes she has on that day and she loves to hang out and watch all the people.

The coffee shop has a nice mellow atmosphere. It’s always nice and warm in there, the colors on the wall and the lighting is  soothing and usually the music is good.

Cute moment

She’s usually content for about an hour or so before she gets too squirmy or too tired. We usually head home for a nap, but she decided she needed to blow off some steam so we played on the floor for a while.

I was happy to see that she can pretty much sit up on her own. She’s learned to master the balance required when she starts to list to one side. And when she’s on the floor playing she loves to roll and she rolls from her back to her stomach to her back again. We can see that she’s starting to figure out how to kick her knee up for leverage and that when she pushes she actually moves. Crawling is definitely in our near future.

She loves grabbing for the camera.

she actually rolls away from me to get away from the camera. Plus I think her backside is cute.

Like a fed up actress she grabs the camera. It's time for bed.

Baby, it’s cold outside.

The past few weeks have been filled with being sick, being busy, crankiness and now Lulu is teething again. The weather has kept us holed up in the house for the most part (although we did go visiting this past Sunday to visit great grandmother while she recuperates and spent some time with her paternal grandparents. Unfortunately, she was not her usual happy self while we were there.)

Lulu is still getting used to eating solid food. She’s a bit fickle when it comes to eating and she has yet to polish off a bowl of food. But we’ve got daycare on board with giving her cereal during the day and she is doing well. She’s also drinking water out of a sippy cup and seems to really like it. She’s getting the hang of holding the cup on her own and bringing it up to her mouth. I have to leave the plug that keeps it spill-proof out of the spout because she won’t suck it out. She likes to let it dribble into her mouth!

Since it’s been a while since I updated, here’s a bunch of pictures! Is it spring yet?
