The girls had a check up at the doctor’s yesterday. Everyone was taking bets as to how big my sweet Rosie got! I would have lost had I placed some cash down…

Lulu 20 months

weight: 24.6 lbs
height: 35 inches

Lucille has grown another 2 inches and gained 3 lbs since her last check-up. She’s in the 97th percentile for height but only 33 percentile for weight. The doctor was pleased with her weight gain, despite the fact that she’s a beanpole. Lulu is still a finicky eater. She won’t touch meat and although she will try a bite of something new, she will almost immediately spit it out.

It feels like every day she picks up another word to say, which means her parents better keep their potty mouths in check around her. She has also become more comfortable in the pool for her swim lessons, which means less whining and more fun swimmy time.

Rose 4 months, 3 weeks

weight: 18.8 lbs
height: 28 inches

Rose had an incredible growth spurt since her 2 month check-up! She falls in the 99th percentile for height and weight and weighs five pounds less than her big sister. The doctor stated the obvious in that Rose will probably grow to be larger than Lulu.

She cut her first teeth over the weekend. The past month she’s had her fist firmly planted in her piehole and she bit Forrest’s finger Easter morning and he said he felt them. Sure enough, there they were.

She’s also very close to rolling over. She gets about halfway over but can’t quite seal the deal without a little help. Oh, and there’s giggling! Lots of sweet little giggles (and sometimes squeals) when she finds something funny!

I’ve been getting the girls to interact more and more since Rose is getting bigger. I will have Lulu lie down next to Rose so they face each other. Rose will squeal and reach for Lulu. Lulu will touch Rosie’s hair and ears, honk her little nose and then try to poke her in the eye (it’s a work in progress). Sometimes I will have Rose lay on top of Lulu, which makes the older one giggle as she hugs her “baby.”

We made through yet another Halloween in Salem!
This year we laid low since it fell on a Saturday and I’m far too preggo (37 weeks now) to push my way through crowds. The weather was incredible (70 degrees), which was a relief (for me) since I had gotten Lulu a fairly light “bee fairy” costume to wear. I didn’t want to get her a costume that was too cumbersome since she’s newly walking. It worked out great!

In the morning we dressed her up and brought her to our usual breakfast spot. To my surprise, she kept her antennae headband on for quite a long time before tearing it off of her head. Afterwards she ran around outside picking up “tree trash” while her father took many pictures.

We were joined later in the morning by Chrissy & Tim, who were up to enjoy the craziness that is Halloween in Salem. While they were out doing their thing, we took our little bumblebee out for a stroll around the block before it got too nuts. Per usual, she took everything in stride, never got overwhelmed by the amount of people around her and was admired by many.

As it got dark outside, the crush of humanity (expected crowd numbers were 100k and I think it ended up somewhere around 80k) descended upon us and we stuck close to home. Since we were turning the clocks back that night as well, we kept Lulu up an hour past bedtime (which is why she looks so sleepy in the last photo).

While I wished that we all could have been out and about like last year, at least I know there’s always next year!

After a month of rain the weekend of Fourth of July turned out to be mild and sunny. Lulu donned her stars & stripes for the day and we headed down to Grammy and Grampy K’s house for a cookout and to celebrate Uncle John’s 21st birthday.

As always, she was amazingly well behaved all day long and gave out lots of snuggles to everyone. You can see all of the pics from the day here.

That night when we got home we headed down to Pickering Wharf to watch the Salem fireworks. We didn’t know how she would react to all of the different factors: lots of people, being up past her bedtime and loud fireworks. She did so great you could have knocked us over with a feather. She loved all of the different colors in the sky and would occasionally clap. Considering we thought we’d have to leave before the night even started, we ended up having a great time.

Easter is upon us and that can only mean one thing: Spring really is here. YAY!

Lulu got a few cards in the mail for the occasion and true to the nature of babies, they all immediately went into her mouth. Like a puppy, she left little teeth marks and gnawed on the corners until they got nice and soggy.

With one card I happened to look away for a second and the next thing I know she’s happily chewing on a corner. And of course when I tried to get my finger in her mouth to fish is out she clamped it shut as tightly as she could!

I had a difficult time finding a dress for her to wear on Easter day. But my mother solved that problem for me by getting five different dresses for me to choose from in every color of the pastel palette.  It was a toss-up between the green and the blue dress. I settled on the blue one. She looked sweet enough to eat.

It’s not every day that you’re sitting outside of your house and the Easter Bunny comes strolling up the walk way. To say that Lulu was intrigued would be an understatement.

Since Lulu is about 25% Irish, we went out for a little fun on St. Patty’s Day. Dad left work a little early and we headed over to our neighborhood pub, O’Neills for dinner. Of course, it was pretty packed in there and the irish music was nice and loud. She seemed a little overwhelmed at first but when we got a table and sat for a few minutes she was right at home. Surprisingly, she doesn’t own anything green but I found a green hair clip and managed to find some hair long enough to clip it to!

All the drunkie-bums thought she was so adorable that I was ready to smack their hands every time they tried to touch her, but she took it all in stride. She was so great during dinner, taking in all the sights and people-watching.

Yay, boiled dinner!

Honestly, being able to capture pictures of Lulu that aren’t completely blurry is somewhat of an enigma. She moves so fast and frequently that half the pics we take she’s a big blur. Well, here. This should illustrate why it’s hard to get a good picture of her!

Last weekend we went to see Santa! I really wasn’t quite sure how she would react to him knowing that a lot of kids are afraid of him. Not Lulu! She was infatuated with him!

Out of the 6-8 photos that were taken half of them was of her looking right up at him. She could barely tear her gaze from him unless Mom was jumping up and down like a lunatic.

And she does look like she’s flipping him off!
