Two Lucilles are better than one

A few weeks ago we headed down to the South Shore to visit Lulu’s great-grandmother (Forrest’s 95 yr. old grandmother), Lucille, who we hadn’t seen in a while as well as Lulu’s grandparents. We ended up going out to lunch and Lulu was on her best behavior. It was a great day.

The days are getting shorter, the temperature is getting much cooler and my belly is growing to massive proportions waiting the arrival of 2.0…

Summer may be gone, but we have some great pictures to show for it. Since getting a single photo of Lulu with both of her parents is as rare as a Sasquatch footprint, here’s what I’ve managed to scare up!

The lack of posts means we’ve been out and about lately going visiting, hanging out locally and most recently we’ve been going to the beach!

The first 10-15 minutes after getting there is always a bit frazzling for me. The combo of laying out a blanket, slathering her with sunblock from head to toe (and then myself) and the constant tug of war with her to keep a hat on her head can be a bit frustrating.

Lulu *LOVES* the water! She jumps up and down in the waves and yells “wow whoa wow whoa“! It fun to watch her get a little more daring as she inches deeper into the water (deeper being hip high on her and ankle deep on me!) and lets the waves splash her belly. I’ve also brought her a little deeper in while I hold her and dunk her legs into a wave as it breaks. Obviously the deeper the water, the colder it is, so we don’t stay deep very long.

She is very much an observer and really loves people watching (much like her parents). She especially loves other kids and gets excited when she sees them running and playing in the sand. Deep down I know she just wants to jump up and join them, but she just isn’t there yet. Soon!

We typically stay for 3-4 hours and toward the end of our day when she’s getting tired, she’s content to sit with me while I coax her to munch on snacks and hydrate herself, while we listen to the surf and watch people stroll by.

Since we had an absurdly hot day in April, we headed for the beach! A friend of mine was going to Good Harbor beach in Gloucester, so when Lulu got up from her nap we packed up and headed out. I thought that today would be a good test to see if she actually liked the beach, since I am planning on spending many summer days there.

She loved it! She loved the wind coming off of the water, the sand (it was delicious) and I even dipped her little toes in the water. The water was still very cold and the first few little waves that came by she actually pulled her feet up so they wouldn’t get wet. But when she got used to it she was jumping up and down and squealing.

I see many, many beach days in our future!

Suddenly it’s Spring

The first 70 degree day of the season drove us outdoors to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. We spent a good couple of hours on Salem Common, taking a long walk, swinging on the swings and sitting on a blanket in the sun. Well, Lulu sat on the blanket while I prevented her from putting fistfuls of grass in her mouth…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Since Lulu is about 25% Irish, we went out for a little fun on St. Patty’s Day. Dad left work a little early and we headed over to our neighborhood pub, O’Neills for dinner. Of course, it was pretty packed in there and the irish music was nice and loud. She seemed a little overwhelmed at first but when we got a table and sat for a few minutes she was right at home. Surprisingly, she doesn’t own anything green but I found a green hair clip and managed to find some hair long enough to clip it to!

All the drunkie-bums thought she was so adorable that I was ready to smack their hands every time they tried to touch her, but she took it all in stride. She was so great during dinner, taking in all the sights and people-watching.

Honestly, being able to capture pictures of Lulu that aren’t completely blurry is somewhat of an enigma. She moves so fast and frequently that half the pics we take she’s a big blur. Well, here. This should illustrate why it’s hard to get a good picture of her!

Lulu got a new fleece jumpsuit from her Aunt Mouse and Uncle Cross. It fits her really well and she looks really cute in it.

Yesterday we started our day in usual Saturday morning fashion. The three of us headed on over to the Front St. Coffee shop for breakfast. We usually sleep in a little later (Lulu will sleep in anywhere from 8:30-9:30 in the morning), get dressed quickly, grab a bottle for her and walk on over. Since we’re there every Saturday there are some other regulars who always come over to say hello to Miss Lulu, check out her latest outfit or see which cute shoes she has on that day and she loves to hang out and watch all the people.

The coffee shop has a nice mellow atmosphere. It’s always nice and warm in there, the colors on the wall and the lighting is soothing and usually the music is good.

She’s usually content for about an hour or so before she gets too squirmy or too tired. We usually head home for a nap, but she decided she needed to blow off some steam so we played on the floor for a while.

I was happy to see that she can pretty much sit up on her own. She’s learned to master the balance required when she starts to list to one side. And when she’s on the floor playing she loves to roll and she rolls from her back to her stomach to her back again. We can see that she’s starting to figure out how to kick her knee up for leverage and that when she pushes she actually moves. Crawling is definitely in our near future.

Lulu and the big jolly guy

Last weekend we went to see Santa! I really wasn’t quite sure how she would react to him knowing that a lot of kids are afraid of him. Not Lulu! She was infatuated with him!

Out of the 6-8 photos that were taken half of them was of her looking right up at him. She could barely tear her gaze from him unless Mom was jumping up and down like a lunatic.

And she does look like she’s flipping him off!
